Episode #2 - Resilience, Rottnest & Real Conversations

Here's What you Missed !

Episode 2 of After Swim didn’t exactly start to plan… a live power outage in the opening minutes forced us to reset in real time.

In many ways, it became the perfect reflection of this week’s theme: Resilience.

From major swims around the world to a deep dive into the meaning behind Rottnest, this episode was about preparation, adaptability, and how we respond when things don’t go to plan.

What we covered:

🌊 This Week In the Water

We took a lap around what's happening across the open water world, including:

U24 Safety to Sorrento Swim in Port Phillip Bay – 24km, 12km and 6km events with an incredible finish rate!

We received a video update from Jono Ridler’s 1,400km non-wetsuit swim down New Zealand’s east coast to raise awareness about bottom trawling and ocean health.

🏊 in The Main Set: The Rottnest Channel Swim

We went into the history, culture and emotional pull of the 19.7km crossing from Cottesloe to Rottnest Island.

We spoke about:
The origins of the swim and how it has evolved
How the event has shaped a culture
Why people come back year after year
The personal journeys behind some of the swims
How big swims can provide structure, purpose and direction during challenging seasons of life
The importance of mentors and people around you

Rottnest isn’t just a race, it’s become a rite of passage!

💙 Weekley Wisdom: Robust vs Resilient

This week we unpacked resilience.

We discussed:
The difference between being prepared and being adaptive
Reacting vs responding under pressure
Managing nerves in the lead-up to major events
Focusing on what you can control when conditions shift

Preparation builds confidence.
Resilience protects it when things change.
